Cam Mountain – The sacred legend of That Son

Rising over 710 meters above sea level, Cam Mountain (also known as Thien Cam Son) is the highest peak in the Mekong Delta, nestled within the That Son Range of Tinh Bien District, An Giang Province.

For centuries, this mountain has been revered as a sacred site filled with spiritual energy and mythical tales, drawing countless pilgrims from across southern Vietnam. Beyond its religious significance, Cam Mountain fascinates adventurers with its untamed natural beauty, cool year-round climate, and scenic trekking routes through lush forests, waterfalls, and tranquil villages.

The 21km Cam Mountain trekking journey

The 21km trekking program, organized by Victoria Nui Sam Lodge and Victoria Chau Doc Hotel, is not just a fitness challenge – it’s a cultural and natural immersion through one of southern Vietnam’s most enchanting landscapes.

Designed with three main stages, the route takes travelers from the mountain’s foothills through tropical fruit farms and peaceful villages, up to the sacred summit where a giant Maitreya Buddha statue overlooks the vast Mekong plains.

Day 1 – Preparation & Inspiration

Guests check in at Victoria Nui Sam Lodge or Victoria Chau Doc Hotel, receive their trekking outfit and equipment, then take time to rest and get accustomed to the warm southern climate.

As evening falls, enjoy the fresh mountain breeze and sparkling city lights of Chau Doc shimmering along the Hau River – a peaceful and inspiring prelude to the exciting journey ahead.

Day 2 – Conquer Cam Mountain (21km Trek)

The morning begins with an early breakfast at 6:00 AM, fueling up for the adventure ahead. At 7:00 AM, the group departs for the Cam Mountain Tourist Management Center, where the official trekking journey begins.

Between 7:45 and 8:00 AM, the opening ceremony kicks off with warm-up exercises, a safety briefing, and distribution of support gear – setting the tone for an exhilarating day of exploration and endurance.

Stage I: Sweet fruit trails (8:00 – 9:30 AM)

The trek starts across vast palm groves, mango orchards, and custard apple hills, surrounded by the scent of fruit trees and the rhythm of daily life in the Mekong Delta. Each step offers a glimpse into the harmony between nature and people in this fertile land.

Stage II: The legend of Cam Mountain (9:15 – 11:30 AM)

The group stops at Cay Que Shrine, where trekkers enjoy fresh fruit, cold drinks, and hear ancient legends about Cam Mountain passed down through generations.

Continuing upward, visit Van Linh Pagoda, the Maitreya Buddha, and Phat Lon Temple – the region’s most sacred landmarks. In a serene setting, guests can offer incense and prayers for peace and blessings.

At Cay Cam Ket (The Commitment Tree), listen to fascinating stories about the “Roof of the South” and the historical journeys of An Giang’s early settlers.

Soon, the serene Thuy Liem Lake appears like a watercolor painting halfway up the mountain – calm waters reflecting the sky. It’s a perfect rest stop to enjoy local snacks, palm juice, and traditional cakes.

At 12:00 PM, enjoy a hearty lunch beside Thuy Liem Lake with local specialties such as grilled mountain chicken, freshwater fish, and stir-fried wild vegetables, savoring the authentic flavors of the Seven Mountains region.

Stage III: The way back to the source (1:30 – 5:00 PM)

Descending from the summit, the group follows forest trails and village paths, passing Thanh Long Stream, orange gardens, and mango farms under the shade of tall trees. Along the way, enjoy grilled banana cakes, fresh palm juice, and fruit offered by local villagers.

At 5:00 PM, the group returns to the hotel after a fulfilling day of adventure, relaxing in the tranquil comfort of Victoria Nui Sam Lodge or Victoria Chau Doc Hotel.

From 7:00 to 9:00 PM, gather for the Gala Dinner & Medal Ceremony, where trekkers celebrate their achievements, share stories, and receive their “Cam Mountain Conqueror” medals – a proud memento of perseverance, teamwork, and discovery in the sacred land of An Giang.

Day 3 – Farewell with pride
